FAQs

What is therapy?

Therapy is a supportive process where you talk with a trained professional to understand and manage your feelings.

How do I know if therapy is actually working?
We’ve tried counseling before and it didn't work. Why is this different?
Is what we talk about confidential?
Do you work with my primary care doctor?

Many couples get stuck in "talk therapy" that just rehashes the week's arguments. My approach is results-oriented and straightforward. We don't just talk about the problems; we identify the underlying patterns and give you a "translation key" to fix them. We focus on the how, not just the why.

Yes. I believe in coordinated care. If you are managing Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety, or Sleep Issues, I am happy to collaborate with your physician or psychiatrist. This approach ensures that your mind and body are receiving a unified plan for healing.

Progress isn't just a feeling; it’s a shift in how you navigate your day. You’ll know it's working when the "heavy seasons" feel shorter, your communication with your partner feels less like a minefield, and you find yourself using new tools automatically. As an APA-trained expert, I prioritize tracking your goals so we both see the tangible growth.

Absolutely. Your privacy is a cornerstone of the therapeutic relationship. Whether we meet in my Omaha office or via secure telehealth, our sessions are a protected space where you can be completely honest without judgment or outside exposure.

What to Expect: Your First Session

Think of our first meeting as a "Discovery Session." There is no pressure to have all the answers or to "fix" everything in an hour. We are simply starting a conversation.

A Warm Welcome

Whether we meet in my Omaha office or via secure telehealth, the first few minutes are about getting settled. We’ll review the basic paperwork and ensure you feel comfortable in the space.

Sharing Your Story

I’ll invite you to share what brought you in. You don’t need a polished script—you can start wherever feels right. We’ll talk about, what has been feeling "heavy" lately? The strengths you already have (even if they feel hidden right now). What a "better life" would actually look and feel like for you.

Building the Map

As an LIMHP and PhD, I listen for patterns. By the end of our first hour, we won't just have "talked"—we will have started to outline a Path to Healing. We’ll identify 1 or 2 immediate goals so you leave feeling like there is a clear direction forward.

Assessing the Fit

The most important part of therapy is the relationship. This session is a chance for you to see if my style feels right for you. If it does, we’ll talk about a schedule that fits your life.

A Note of Hope:

The hardest part of therapy is often just clicking "schedule" or walking through the door for the first time. Once you’re here, you’re no longer carrying the weight alone. We are a team, and we will move at a pace that feels safe and productive for you.
